Remix’s Ideas Outgrew Remix

Remix earned its reputation by taking web standards seriously: pages that load data in parallel, navigation that feels instant, and error handling that keeps a broken component from breaking the page. Those ideas proved so sound that they outgrew the framework itself. In late 2024, Remix's core merged into React Router 7, which now carries the Remix approach forward, and it is the foundation Shopify chose for Hydrogen, its headless commerce framework.

We build on this family of tools where they fit best: app-like storefronts and web applications that need instant, resilient navigation. And because this corner of the ecosystem has moved quickly, we keep this page current, which is more than can be said for most of what you will read about Remix.

Where This Fits in 2026, Honestly

The landscape has three branches now, and knowing which one you need is most of the value. React Router 7 is the continuation of Remix v2, carrying its full-stack approach into the React Router project and representing the established React-based path for new applications. Shopify Hydrogen has historically built on React Router and provides Shopify-specific commerce tooling; if your project is a Shopify storefront, that page is where to look. Remix 3 is the new direction from the Remix team, currently available as a beta preview and moving beyond the React-based architecture of Remix v2. It is not yet production-ready, so we would not recommend it for production commerce today.
